This is a full day tour to the heart of Speyside, a beautiful rural part of northern Scotland that includes the Cairngorms National Park on its western fringe and the iconic River Spey, that runs through the centre, spilling out into the Moray Firth at Spey Bay. Speyside has by far the largest number of whisky distilleries of the six whisky regions of Scotland, including the big names of Macallan and Glenfiddich.

Activity Level Leisurely
This is a full day tour, as Speyside is located 2 hours from our base in Easter Ross. We drive south from Inverness through the Cairngorms National Park to our first stop at Grantown on Spey – High St Merchants, a delightful café in the high street of Grantown. We then head further east into the heart of Speyside – and we will visit one of the two big names in this whisky region – either Glenfiddich or Macallan. Both are leading global whisky brands and Macallan recently opened their new distillery, at a cost of over £100 million. The contemporary architecture and extraordinary roof, are worth a visit alone – before even taking a tour and tasting inside. Both distilleries have superb facilities including a brasserie for lunch. We then visit a second distillery, which could be one of Aberlour, Glenfarclas or Ben Riach. Lunch will be taken at either Glenfiddich, Macallan, or Aberlour. After the distillery visits, we head north to the historic town of Elgin and we visit Johnstons of Elgin, a leading luxury manufacturer of cashmere and woollens, before returning to Inverness.

Grantown on Spey
A lovely drive from Inverness through the Cairngorms National Park, to the Highland town of Grantown, located on one of Scotland’s great salmon fishing rivers – the Spey. We stop here to break the journey and have a tea/coffee and a leg stretch.
Macallan or Glenfiddich
Due to covid safe measures, all distilleries are currently booked well in advance. We will do our best to assist clients to make a reservation at one of the two big distilleries (Glenfiddich or Macallan) and failing that at another of the many Speyside distilleries.
The main part of the tour will be a Tour and Tasting of either Macallan or Glenfiddich.
Lunch can also be taken at either of these distilleries, as they have superb brasserie and bar facilities.
A second Distillery
We travel a short distance to another Malt Whisky Distillery – this could be either Aberlour, Cardhu, Glenfarclas or Ben Riach. Clients should let us know their preference, so we can make a reservation.
Johnstons of Elgin
Elgin is an historic cathedral town on the northern fringe of Speyside – and it is home to one of Scotland’s most successful clothing brands – Johnstons of Elgin. They have an international reputation for luxury cashmere and woollens of the highest quality.
