The North Highlands have some spectacular salmon and trout fly fishing. Salmon are a remarkable species, born into rivers, yet spending much of their life in the ocean. They return to the same rivers each year, starting from February and lasting until the late summer. The art of fly fishing, using a rod to cast a fly on to the water, was pioneered in England in the 17th century and technological advancements over the years, have improved rods, reels and tackle greatly. Highland Explorer offer guided salmon and trout fishing on North Highland rivers and boat fishing for trout on lochs between May and October each year.
